Hey Rebecca.

What is your role at the Flour Mill?

As the General Manager, my role is to look after the building and everyone in it. It’s my aim to give the best customer service that I can in order to give our members an easy and happy customer experience. It’s been a joy to be so heavily involved in every part of their customer journey. I’m always on hand to make sure everyone has what they need, whether it’s a tour of our facilities or a chocolate biscuit (or two).

I’m excited for the days to come in the (not so distant) future when we’re able to run more events in the business lounge. This will be a brilliant opportunity for not only our members but myself, to build networks and friendships with one another.

What is your background?

My background is a bit of a mixed bag. For the past 10 years I’ve worked primarily in the hospitality industry. Learning everything that I could about the day to day running of a hotel and gradually working my way up to become the conference and banqueting manager.   However my passion lies more in the creative industry. In 2018 I graduated with a degree in Jewellery and Metalwork design at DJCAD, it was such an amazing experience to have the ability to home in on what I wanted to put my creative energy into.  I have been fortunate enough to have had so many different opportunities presented to me and for my work displayed across the country. I hope to blend the skills I’ve learnt in these two very different industries, and put them to good use here!

Quick Fire Round:

Q1) What is your work super power?

Not to toot my own horn, but I think it’s customer service. I love speaking to people, getting to know them better, finding solutions to their issues and being there for them when they need an ear.

Q2) If you weren’t the General Manager, what would your ‘alternate universe’ career be?

In a parallel universe somewhere, I definitely would have run off with the circus. Off travelling the world as a trapeze performer.

Q3) What is the best piece of professional advice you’ve received?

Either that you don’t have to say “YES” to everything. It takes a lot to know when “no” is a lot more appropriate and beneficial to other people.

Or that it’s ok to fail. Some of the best lessons learnt, come from falling flat on your face.

Q4) What’s your favourite way to ‘reset’ during a busy day?

I distract someone in the building with a round of the “word game”.

How to play:

Each person chooses a word at random. Once players have their word, count down “3, 2, 1” to say your words at the same time.

Once you have your starting words you need to find some sort of link between them. After each turn you should narrow down what words you can say.

E.g. If one person says “brick” and the other says “trees”, you could then say something like “materials” or “building”.

The aim of the game is to say the same word at the same time

Rules:

THERE ARE NO RULES! Nahhh just kidding; nouns tend to work best and you can only say words once.

Try it. It’s a good way of brain dumping.

Q5) If you could teleport anywhere for lunch today, where would you go?

Get me to the Amalfi Coast for a seafood risotto 😍
