Meet the Members: Grant McGregor

Hi Aliina!

Tell me a bit about who Grant McGregor are?

So we are an IT company providing support for a whole range of businesses across the UK. We are all about being people-friendly and believe it’s really important to build companies’ IT around them and their needs, and not the other way around. So all of our services are individually tailored to each of our clients.

What is your role in the company?

My role is a Service Support Analyst. So I provide general day-to-day support for example, if something is broken or someone needs help. I have access to all of our clients’ IT services and can fix them remotely from my computer here in the office.

Kev also works from our Dundee office from time to time, but he does Field Engineering so he is out visiting clients a lot. Apart from that everybody else is based at our main hub in Edinburgh.

Who are your clients?

We work with both big and small businesses. For example, we are the IT company for Thornton’s Investments which is not far from here, and Scotia Homes – one of our North side clients. I am able to work with just about anyone as I work from the office, online and over the phone, so I occasionally deal with clients who have offices in London too. Kev on the other hand, being a Field Engineer, works exclusively with our North clients- so the likes of Dundee, Forfar, Aberdeen and Peterhead.

Why did you decide to get an office in Dundee?

When I started at Grant McGregor I asked to be based near Dundee because that’s where I live with my family. Kev also worked up in Dundee a lot so it seemed logical for us both to share an office together.

I am originally from Estonia and I actually came to Dundee on a 6 month placement to learn English. After a few months I met my future husband and I just loved living in Dundee. So I’ve now been here for 13 years (time flies!).

How did you get into this Industry?

I graduated last year from RGU doing Computer Network Management. I really like building networks and connecting PCs, all of the behind the scenes work. My interest in computers really came about when I was in my mid 20s and working as a Dental Technician’s Assistant. We used computer software to make 3D models of things and I was always intrigued when the computer broke down or something wasn’t working, and I wanted to try and fix it! So I went to college to learn more, then university, and now here I am.

Tell me something else about yourself.

I like self-help books, meditation, yoga and Bachata. Bachata is a dance style that originated from the Dominican Republic and it’s a bit like Salsa. I go to classes 2 times a week, but it would be nice to know some more people that do Bachata or would like to learn.

Come say hi!
