Meet the Members: Ennova Law

Hi Fraser!

Can you tell me a little bit about Ennova Law?

Ennova Law has been on the go for about 5 years now.  We are a business and private client law firm with offices in both Dundee and Edinburgh.  We provide legal advice on a range of business and personal matters, including residential and commercial property, renewables, corporate law, dispute resolution, divorce and family law and wills and executries.

Who is all in your team?

We have around 25 members of staff and there are 6 or 7 partners.  However we are hoping to expand over the next few years and Dundee would be part of that- our office here is actually our first office outside of Edinburgh.

Why has Ennova decided to expand to Dundee?

I am from Dundee so that was part of the decision but there is also a lot going on here just now.  With the V&A and the general buzz about the place we saw it as a great opportunity for growth.  It’s also beneficial because I know Dundee well and can help to grow it from the inside, as opposed to an individual trying to service clients from afar in our Edinburgh office.  So it ticks a lot of boxes.

What is your role in the company?

So I specialise in commercial property. For example if someone is buying a block of 20 flats to refurbish and rent out, or buying a building like this one, then you would need a commercial property solicitor to advise you on certain areas.  Similarly to having a mortgage for your house. There needs to be someone that can act on your behalf and likewise act on behalf of the bank.  So it can involve a whole host of things.  Purchasing, leasing, selling, acting for both landlords and tenants.

How did you get into this industry?

I went back to study law when I was 25.  My brother is a surveyor and I have a few friends who are surveyors as well, who work closely with commercial property solicitors.  I already had a degree so I went back and did an accelerated law degree.  I did work experience at a number of firms including Warners, that Ennova used to be part of, and I managed to get my traineeship through them.  So it’s always been commercial property that I was interested in and that’s what I’ve ended up doing!

After I qualified in 2014 I continue to work at Ennova for about 18 months until family circumstances brought me back to Dundee.  That was when I started working for Blackadders, again doing commercial property.  Ennova Law later approached me to come back as they wanted to open up and office in Dundee.

That pretty much brings us up to now.

Why did you choose the Flour Mill?

One of the biggest attractions of this building was the front facing reception that welcomes in our clients and guests, the access to meeting rooms, and the history of the building itself.  It’s really nice to see an old building like this being repurposed.   Everyone that has been up so far has been really impressed by it.

Come say hi!

You can find us on the 3rd floor of the Flour Mill, or you can learn more about us on our website.
